Grouped double star stitches for needlepoint are often used on needlepoint canvas, Aida cloth or linen.
Take a look at the pattern for the single double star stitch. When you group the double star stitches together, the method of completion is the same.
Complete step 1 for all six elements of the pattern. This will involve the 12 diagonal stitches per pattern, repeated 6 times.
Then, complete step 2 involving the 2 horizontal and two vertical arms of the cross. You will need to be mindful of the fact that there will be eight stitches going into one central hole.
Work each double start stitch pattern by starting at the bottom left hand corner and come up in an empty hole at 1 and go down at 2 pulling the thread/yarn slightly toward the hole you come up at. Work the stitches in a counter-clockwise direction, always coming up in an empty whole and going down towards the center.
Use an awl or a knitting needle to enlarge the whole, this will help the thread to go through the hole smoother.
