This needlepoint carpet pattern is an adaptation of an antique Turkish carpet from Izmir, 18th c.

The fertile rains of spring is symbolized by the flight of the dragon on this carpet.

A common mythological theme pointing to the meeting of earth and heaven or the mother goddess and god.  Around the border, plane-tree leaves symbolize life, where in the field stars stand for eternity.
